The first sale of the year in Ck-On-Shannon was held on Saturday 18th February with 60 bulls catalogued for this sale. Irish Angus Perpetual Cup for the Irish Angus Champion bull & Supreme champion of the sale went to Martin Garvey, Liscolvin, Hillstreet, Co. Roscommon.

Martin's Champion bull Liscolvin Gerry was sired by Black Banner X1 of Idvies and sold for €5000.  Reserve champion bull   Bunlahy General Blake, sired by Curzon Entertainer and bred by G A & D Reynolds, Ballinalee Longford was unsold on the day.

The Moroney Perpetual Silver cup was presented to G A & D Reynolds for the best pair of Angus bulls.

Lot 186, second prize winner in class 15  sold for  €5050 , bred by Eamon McKiernan Monasterboice, Co. Louth and  sired by Lockerley Legolas G850, with Eamonn's lot number 185 bred by the same sire selling for €3000.  First prize winner in class 11 Lot 140 Tullyfarm Gulliver  sired by Lawsons Ford Bagatelle, sold for €3500. Ernehill Greg, first prize winner in class 12  sired by Ernehill Eric and out of a Bohey Jasper Dam sold for €3400, this bull was bred by Francis & Noel Fitzpatrick, Milltown, Belturbet, Co. Cavan.  Lot 137  Clonbroney Gerard,  sired by Jeremy Eric of Bridgefoot and out of a Fordel Eisenhower dam sold for €3100.

Steil G Edwardo 178, second prize winner in class 13,  sired by Retties Dale Hogan, out of a  BJ's no Limits dam sold for €3100,  Steil G Chunky 180, also a second prize winner from class 14.  sired  by Retties Dale Hogan and out of a Drumhillan Roy dam sold for €3000,  Steil H Wilson 188  a third prize winner in class 15 sired by Retties Dale Hogan and out of a Drumhillan Roy Dam sold for €2800, Steil G Duke 181 sired by Retties Dale Hogan sold for €2250, all Steil bulls were bred and exhibited by Joseph J McCormack, Steil,Tulsk,Castlerea, Co. Roscommon.

Drummullian Gerry, third prize winner in class 14,  sired by Nakkeg Nord  and out a Lawsons Ford Bagatelle Dam sold for €3000, this bull was bred by Padraigh McGrath, Cloonshanagh, Elphin, Co. Roscommon    Lot  144  Oran Gladiator sired by  Drumcrow Prudent D186,and out of a Ballydacker Lord Jim dam was exhibited by Patrick Regan, Cloonmore, Ballyfarna, Claremorris, Co. Mayo  sold for €2850, this bull was a second prize winner in his class.

Mercury Goal exhibited by Shane Murphy, Glen South Banteer Co. Cork sold for €2700, this bull was sired by Friarstown Lord Rathmore.

One of the youngest bulls  Liscolvin Herucles  sold for €2700 , sired by Cruisin Mark F207 and bred by Martin Garvey, Liscolvin, Hillstreet, Co. Roscommon.

Lot 158 Drumcrow Gunter, bred by Frank McKiernan, Lacken Lower, Ballinagh, Cavan sold for €2600, sired by Drumcrow Powerfull Trend and out of a Belvin Patriarch Dam, also lot no 152 by the same exhibitor sold for €2500.    Lot nos 157, 160, 161 sold for €2600, €2700, and €2500 all  bred and exhibited by Tom Reynolds, Johnstons Bridge , Bornacoola Co. Leitrim,all sired by Knockadrinan Precise G398.

Best pair of Bulls - Bred by G A & D Reynolds,  Ballinalee, Longford

March Sale in Kilkenny had 38 bulls catalogued. Trade was very brisk with an average of  €2900. Judge on the day was Ben Ryall from Watergrasshill, Cork. Ben selected lot 98 -  sired by Clontead Ecco as Champion, this bull sold for  €4600.

Lot 88   Cavetown Giles bred and exhibited by Norman & Joy Little, Cavetown, Boyle Co. Roscommon sold for €2700, this bull was sired by Lawsons Ford Bagatelle and was Reserve Champion on the day.

Lot 118  Drumcrow Herbi, the youngest bull on the day, exhibited by Frank McKiernan, Drumcrow, Cavan sold for €4000,  this February '11 bull was sired by Cashelane Lord Jeremy and out of a Lissard Mark Dam.

Lot 83  Corry Garret bred and exhibited by Hugh Joseph McCawley,Tullinarogue, Drumkeerin, Leitrim sold for €3550, this bull was sired by Mong Bravado and out of a Keelogoboy Warren dam, other lots exhibited by Hugh McCawley sold for  €2500 & €2300. 

Lot 95  Drumcrow Gliding Star  also from Frank McKiernan sold for €3200, out of  Luddenmore Fionn and the Dam was by Rainbow Hills Governor. 

Lot 85, Newbridge Goalie, bred and exhibited by Brendan McCawley, Tullinarogue, Drumkeerin, Co. Leitrim sold for €3100 and was sired by Edenmore Red Baron, lots 84 & 86 also by the same exhibitior and sired by Edenmore Red Baron sold for €2600, €2550.

Lot 101  Powerstown Ghost bred and exhibited by Joe & Michael Moran, Powerstown, Goresbridge, Co. Kilkenny sold for €2850, this bull was sired by Clooncolligan Excellence and out a of Ballydacker Lord Jarlath Dam. Foxcover Gregg, bred and exhibited by George Ambrose Langrell, Foxcover, Monaseed, Gorey, Co. Wexford  also sold for €2850, this bull was sired by Spangager Tommy Boy and out of a Fordel Eisenhower Dam, another lot from George Ambrose Langrell sold for €2500.  Knockmountagh Geoff bred and exhibited by Eamonn McKiernan, Monasterboice, Co. Louth sold for €2800, this was bull was sired by Rawburn Lord Rocket and out of a Young Dale Touch Down Dam, Another lot of Eamon McKiernan's  Knockmountagh Geeser, sold for €2800, this bull was sired by Early Sunset High Time 81G, and out of a Lawsons Ford Bagatelle Dam. 

Lot 92 Cairnmor Gregory, bred and exhibited by David Holland, Cullohill, Co. Laois sold for €2350, this bull was sired by  Cahirmee Westy and out of a Passat of Breaffy Dam.

Lots 117 & 116  Ballywire Hefty & Ballywire Happy  bred and exhibited by Denis O'Brien, Ballywire, Kilross, Co. Tipperary sold for €2300 & €2000, both bulls were sired by Darima D Perryman.

March Sale Ck-On-Shannon had 16 bulls on offer.

Top price in the bulls went to Lot 14  Steil H Jasper bred by Joseph McCormack, Steil, Tulsk, Castlerea, Co. Roscommon, this bull sold for €2600 this bull was sired by Retties Dale Hogan and out of a Bohey Lucas Dam. Lot 8  Mough Gulliver bred by Brian McWeeney, Longstone,Ballinamore, Co. Leitrim sold for €2350 , this bull was sired by Lacknasleva Billy and out of a Longstone Ronan Dam. Currycramp Gareth bred by Gerard Mulligan, Bornacoola, Co. Leitrim sold for €2250, this bull was sired by Currycramp Dan and out of a Drumcrow Thunder Dam.

Lot 11  Swinford Greatest  bred by Chris Haran, Swinford, Co. Mayo, sold for €2150, this bull was sire by Friarstown Edition G028, out of a a Rainbow Hills Independence Dam. Turlough Harry bred by Martin McHugh, Turlough, Castlebar, Co. Mayo sold for €2050, this bull was sired by Crerogue Ellard and out of a Kilkelly Bobby Dam.

In the heifer section lots 17 and 19, Lecarrow Gina and Lecarrow Grace both bred by Pat Murphy, Puntabeg, Charlestown, Co. Mayo sold for €3500 each.  Gina was sired by Geis Gambler and Grace sired by Nakkeg Nord 913.  Lot 18 Steil G Molly 173 bred by Joseph McCormack, Steil, Tulsk, Castlerea, Co. Roscommon, this heifer sold for €2250.

Bulls

67 Bulls were on offer for this sale, with premiums being awarded to the buyers of the top four priced bulls, generating great interest in this sale. Trade was brisk with 52 of the 67 bulls on offer selling to an average of €2780.  Judge Stephen Wallace chose lot 42 Bunlahy Hector as his Champion, this bull was bred by GA & D Reynolds, Ballinalee, Longford and sold for the top price of €6700. This january 11 born bull was sired by Mogeely Joe and out of a Netherton Faboulas Cruz Dam.

The reserve championship was awarded to lot 72, which later sold for for €3300.

Lot 28, bred and exhibitied by Frank McKiernan, Lacken Lower, Ballinagh, Cavan went on to sell for €6200, next highest price went to

lot 36  Beechill Hamlet, bred and exhibited by Zara Dunne, Belturbet, Co. Cavan,.  This bull was sired by Coneyisland Legend and out of a Lawsonsford Bagatelle Dam.

Lot 55,  Loughlynn High King bred and exhibited by Patrick Regan Jnr.Ballyfarna, Claremorris, Co. Mayo sold for €4000, sired by Lawsons Ford Bagatelle and out of a Tivanagh Baron Dam. Clooncolligan Hercules, bred and exhibited by Kevin Diffley Clooncolligan, Bornacoola sold for €3500, this bull was sired by  Tonroe Lord Ian G263 and out of a Bohey Jasper Dam.  Acres Gary, bred and exhibited by Frank Ward, Acres, Ballyshannon, Co. Donegal sold for €3400. This bull as sired by Coneyisland Legend, and out of a Bohey Jasper Dam. Son of Nakkeg Nord  Dararea Grant, bred and exhibited by Eamon Beirne, Strokestown, Co. Roscommon sold for €3250.

Another bull sired by Coneyisland Legend,  Ballyshannon Henry, bred and exhibited by JW Morrow, Ballyshannon, Co. Donegal sold for €3050 , with James Morrow also lot 45 Ballyshannon Herbert, a son of Young Dale Monarch for €2700,  and lot 49 Ballyshannon Hubert , sired by Rawburn Eventer 2nd for €2500.  Towra Gerard, bred and exhibited by Jim Dockery, Towra, Shinrone, Co. Offaly sold for €3000.  This bull was sired by Black Banner X1 of Idvies and out of a Rathra Champion Dam. Steil Howard bred and exhibited by Josepj J McCormack sold for €3000, this bull was sired by Retties Dale Hogan and of of a Tonroe Art dam.

Lot 71, Clonbroney Harold, bred and exhibited by Liam Foley, Ballinalee, Co. Longford, sold for €2900, this bull was sired by Aynho Rossiter Eric, and out of a Bohey Leo Dam, Clonbroney Glenn also bred by Liam Foley sold for €2400, sire  Aynho Rossiter Eric.

Lot 48 Leacarrow Harry, bred and exhibited by Pat Murphy, Puntabeg, Charlestown, Co. Mayo, this bull was sired by Mogeely Joe and out of a Fordel Eisenhower Dam.   Cloghanshill George & Cloghans Gracious,  bred and exhibited by Padraic Quinn, Tuam Co. Galway sold for €2600, €2300, both these bulls were sired by Tonroe Bertie F255.

Lot 62 Cloonroughan Hector, exhibited by Felix O'Connor, Cloonroughan, Elphin, Co. Roscommon sold for €2600, sired by Mogeely Joe.   Lots 52 & 84,  Laheens  Harry & Laheens  Harold, bred and exhibited by Cathal Duignan, Laheen House, Ck-On-Shannon  sold for €2550 and €2500., these bulls were sired by Luddenmore Fionn and  Jerusalem Faraday.  Lot 54 Drumgrania Harry, bred and exhibited by Fergus Reilly, Mohill, Co. Leitrim sold for €2400, this bull was sired by  Luddenmore Fionn. Lot 6  Rathbraughan Grand Black , bred and exhibited by Michael McDermott, Rathbraughan Lin, Sligo sold for €2400 sired by Drumcrow Proud Knight.  Lot 27,  Ernehill Gerry , bred and exhibited by F & N Fitzpatrick sold for €2300, sired by

Coneyisland Legend, Lot 58  Burrough High Time, bred and exhibited by Seamus Prior, Ballinamore, Co. Leitrim sold for €2300, this bull was also sired by Coneyisland Legend.

Heifers

The Trade for Angus Heifers was indeed very strong, with premiums on offer to the purchaser of the two top priced heifers.

Top price of the day went to champion Heifer Prohurst Judy J145, exhibited by Michael Sheahan, Kilmallock, this heifer sold for €7700, with the reserve Champion Heifer selling for €6000, bred and exhibited by Michael Sheahan, Kilmallock, this heifer was sired by Young Dale Touch Down.  Two other Touch Down daughters also from the Luddemore Herd  sold for  €6800, and €4600.  Also from the Luddenmore Herd two heifers sired  by Rawburn Rommell sold for €6400 and €5800. A daughter of DMM Posi Traction also from the Luddenmore Herd sold for €4800.  Michael Sheanhan's lot of females averaged €4800 for 16 lots.

Logboy Gail, bred and exhibited by Liam Mahon, Tibohine, Castlerea, Roscommon sold for €3600.  This heifer was sired by Luddenmore Fionn and out of a Jerusalem Faraday Dam. Clonbroney Helen, bred and exhibited by Liam Foley, Ballinalee, Co. Longfrod sold for €3300, this heifer was sired by Mushroom Friar Fergus.  Drumboy Finesse, bred and exhibited by Shane Kilrane, Drumboy, Mohill, Co. Leitrim sold for €2800, sired by Lawsons Ford Bagatelle.

53 Bulls were catalogued for this Premier Sale, animals were inspected prior to Sale, with premiums available for the buyers of the top two highest priced bulls, sponsored by the Irish Angus Cattle Society.

Judge Michael Flanagan,Moydrum , Athlone tapped out  Mercury Hunter as Champion, this bull was bred and exhibited by Shane Murphy, Woodlands, Glen South, Banteer, Co. Cork and sold for the top price of the day of €4600. This bull was sired by Friarstown Idol, and out of a Cudlobe Millennium dam. Michael then chose lot  27, Tubridmore Henry  bred and exhibited by Denis Twomey, Banteer , Co. Cork as his reserve champion.   This bull was sired by Ankonian Elixir and out of a DMM Distinction dam, and sold for €3900. Denis also exhbited lot 25, Tubridmore Hedge Hopper, sired by Tubridmore Falcon and sold for €2850.

Lot 38 Creggane Lord Even L928 bred and exhibited by James Boyce, Charleville, sold for €3700, this bull was sired by Knockadrinan Bellman and out of a Santana Wizard Dam. James also exhibited lot 52, Creggane Eradical L944, again by the same sire and sold for €3000.  Lots 11, & 9  were exhibited by Mary F Smith, Cahirmee, Doneraile, Co. Cork . Cahirmee Gene  Sired by Drumdeevin Dancer, and out of a  Bunlahy Bruce Dam sold for €3500, while Cahirmee Guy sired by  Drumcrow Ping Pong, and also out of a Bunlahy Bruce dam sold for €3400.

Denis J Jones, Ballydesmond, Co. Cork  exhibited lots 8 & 18,  Hyland Garfield sold for €3400, while Hyland  Graham sold for €3000. Both bulls were sired by Lurghamlough Bouncer. Patrick O'Donnell, Mitchelstown, Co. Cork exhibited lots 3,4,5  Lyreen Gabriel sold for €3250, sired by Cahirmee Alfie, and out of an Acres Sam Dam,  Lyreen Governor sold for €2750 while Lyreen General sold for €2700, both sired by Cahirmee Alfie. Patrick McCarthy, Skibereen, Co. Cork, exhibited lots 37 & 40 Benfada Hal, sired by Ovaun Davy sold for €3200 while Benfada Herwyn sold for €3050, sired by Cheeklaw Eirwyn.

Gerard Hogan, Kilfeacle, Co. Tipperary exhibited lot 36, Beryl Hog, sired by Mogeely Joe. This bull sold for €3200.

Dermot O'Hanlon, Glantane, Banteer, Co. Cork exhibited four lots, all sired by Loughlynn Deputy, Gurteen Gent sold for €3050, Gurteen Harry sold for €3000, Gurteen Hitler sold for €2400 and Gurteen Hiland also for €2400. Lot 28 Keelties Herald, exhibited by Dermot O'Brien, Killarney, Co. Kerry sold for €3000, this bull was sired by Strathinver Brydon.  Ballydaheen Harry, exhibited by John Barry, Bruff Hill, Co. Limerick sold for €2900. This bull was sired by Goulding Philip H339.  Inchisine Handy, exhibited by Denis O'Riordan, Macroom, Co. Cork sold for €2800, sired by Carrigroe Duke.  Lots 24  & 23, Fermoyle Harry 668, Fermoyle Harry 667, exhibited by Michael Twomey, Fermoyle, Banteer, Co. Cork  sold for €2800 & €2200, bulls were sired by  Liss Burly & Gabriel Edward.

Pat Murray, Dunkerrin, Roscrea, Co. Tipperary, exhibited lots 48 & 53  Shingaun Hamlet &  Shingaun Harry  which sold for €2800 & €2350.  Jeremiah Lehane, Mallow, Co. Cork exhibited lots 43 & 49 which both sold for €2800.

Lot 13,  Orcon Giant, exhibited by Sean Cronin sold for €2700  sired by Nakkeg Nord.  Also selling for €2700 was lot 41, exhibited by Brendan McMahon, Ballysheedy, Co. Limerick., Brendon also exhibited lot 16 which sold for €2600. Ger Ryan, Fermoy, Cork exhibited lot 22  Ryans George L059 which sold for €2650, sired by Mogeely Joe H979.

Lot 55  Cloonmeen Grace, exhibited by Michael O'connor, Clonmeen, Banteer, Cork was awarded female Champion. This heifer sold for €3400  to Derek Lovell, Knockborwn Bandon, also reserve champion was from the Clonmeen Herd. Clonmeen Gemma, sold for €2400 and also purchased by Derek Lovell, Knockbrown Bandon.

Once again a generous bonus of €400 was payable to the buyers of the top four priced Bulls.  This indeed boosted sales with a top price of €5000 being paid for champion bull lot 70, bred by Leo McEnroe with reserve champion going to David Jones with lot 110, this bull sold for €3000.

Lot 81 Jenkinstown Golly, bred by Oliver Dunne, Jenkinstown, Co. Kilkenny sold for €3800, this bull was sired by Drumdeevin Dancer , and out of a Nakkeg Nord dam. 

David Holland's lot 79 Cairnmor Graham sold for €3500, this bull was sired by Rawburn Lord Rocket and out of a Kilmore Ambassador Dam.  Lot 76 Cairnmor Gearoid, also bred by David Holland sold for €2900.  Lot 89,Rathcash Ger bred by John Meany, Clifden, Co. Kilkenny sold for €3000, this bull was sired by Laheens Larry and out of a Newpark Ulick dam.

The Irish Angus Cattle Society  Elite Show & Sale of Males and Females was held in Ck-On-Shannon on Saturday 8th December 2012.  Show was sponsored by Connollys Red Mills.

The Champion bull was  Loughlynn Hum-Dinger  bred by Patrick Regan Jnr. Claremorris, Co. Mayo . This November '11 bull was sired by Towerhill Noel and sold for €7300 to Clintown House Stud, Mullingar, Co. Westmeath. This was the second year in a row for Loughlynn Herd to take Male championship at the Elite Sale.

Reserve Champion bull  Aughnamona Pullman , sired by  Knockadrinan Bell Man J464 was bred by Geraldine Shanley & Donal Spring , Bornacoola, Co. Leitrim and sold for €6200 to Jim Jack, Cavanleck, Fivemiletown, Co. Tyrone.

Bulls averaged €3500 with an 80% clearance.
