ALDI IRISH ANGUS ALL IRELAND BULL CALF CHAMPIONSHIPS 2014

With €20,500 on offer, Irish Angus breederss converged on Iverk Showground's, Pilltown, Co. Kilkenny on Saturday last with 89 animals, all looking for a share of the richest prizefund in Europe for Angus classes at an Agri-Show.
At 1.30 pm the gate to the Eddie Quilty designed show ring was opened and the parade of bulls born from January 1st to April 30th began.
Judge Derek Lovell from Bandon, Co. Cork had a long hard look at 20 of the finest young Angus bulls from various counties across Ireland before he decided to hold twelve to go forward for final adjudication.
He decided that the Champion Sash should go to Goulding Lancer ET, a January born calf by Nightinggale Dunbar out of Mohill Belle owned by Matthew Goulding, Ballyduff, Co Kerry.

Reserve Champion went to Cloghogue Lucky a March born bull by Coney Island Legend and out of Cloghogue Horizon owned by Edmond & Betty O Carroll, Cloghogue, Castlebaldwin, Co. Sligo.

Bulls born from September 1st to December 31st 2013
26 bulls had qualified from various shows across the country and 23 of them arrived in Iverk, all hoping for the pot of gold.
Judge Derek Lovell was so impressed with the quality of the bulls, he requested to hold 14 bulls to go forward for the final shakeup.
With exhibitors from Kerry, Roscommon, Cork, Leitrim and Longford left to battle it out, the tension in the ring was rising, while the huge crowd of spectators were making up their minds as to where the Champion Sash should go.
Eventually Derek selected as Champion Mercury Kiefer, an October born bull by Nightingale El Paso and Friarstown Ellen Erica owned by Shane Murphy, Banteer, Co. Cork.

Reserve Champion went to Steil Kozmo, a September born bull by TE Mania Berkley and Steil Geraldine, owned by Cathal & Joe Mc Cormack, Steil, Tulsk, Co. Roscommon

A total of four bulls changed hands, with two going to Scotland.
In the Female Section a five year old cow Carrigroe Lady Janey exhibited by John & Frank Applebe, Clonakilty, Co. Cork took home the Champion Sash

Reserve Female Champion went to Lecarrow Katie exhibited by Pat Murphy, Puntabegg, Charlestown, Co. Mayo.
